Leah Rodgers Ready for Competition

by Arthia Nixon, The Ambassador Agency

14 year-old Leah Rodgers will be entering her very first international gymnastics meet this weekend as the only Bahamian in the entire competition. The ninth grade student of Queen’s College has been a member of Nassau ‘Nastics, The Bahamas’ oldest gymnastics club for three years. She plans to make her competition debut at the 2010 Leprechaun Classics in Orlando, Florida which takes place March 13 and 14.

“I’m looking forward to my very first meet and I hope to score at least an eight on my events,” says Leah who will be competing on the floor, balance beam, vault and uneven bars. “The floor is my favorite routine and I think I’m glad to finally have a trip and I am most looking forward to getting it over with.”

As for being the only Bahamian at the event, Leah says: “I don’t feel any pressure at all. I’ll just try to block out all the noise and simply concentrate on winning and doing my best.”

Leah will be heading to Florida with her two biggest supporters in the sport – her mother Pequita and Nassau ‘Nastics Head Coach, Trevor Ramsey.

“I am looking forward to watching Leah receive her first competition medals,” said Coach Ramsey. “She is a very talented athlete and she works hard on her routines. Overall, I think she can score at least an 8.5 in all of these events and is definitely one of the underdogs in the competition. I am sure she will do the Bahamas and Nassau ‘Nastics proud as the only representative in the Leprechaun Classics.”
